Where i had stayed in Bangkok

Lamphu House , Soi Rambuttri, Khao San area.
Make famous by Lonely Planet, they got lots of customer now, and i feel that they are abit arrogant..

We was abit late (20 minutes late) during the check out day, and that fellow at the reception question me like i am late for school!! but luckily he is willing to give me back the deposit of 1000 baht.
A "ok" place, clean, big room (we go a double twin room), towel, soap , toilet paper are provided.

Double Twin Room - consists of 2 double bed

Rambuttri Village Inn, Soi Rambuttri, Khao San Area.

This inn is located just next to Lamphu House, look nice from outside.

When i step in, there are many guest around the reception counter, all waiting for their turn, and the receptionist is with that kind of face that u dun wan to loook at it anymore, is so "dark".

Waited for about 15 min for my turn, got my room keys and to the room we go.

And it look like this in the room

The curtain is not being put up properly, it can't be close tight. The wall light is malfunction; wall is dirty; my bed linen got a hole on it and there is a chemical smell when i walk into it. Since is a budget inn (800 baht/nite), i bear with it, even though i expect more from this.

At dawn, there are more in the room tat welcome us. Guess wat.....

lizard? nope....

siu keong? nope.....

ghost? nope......not so "mang" i believe

is BED BUG!

Bed bug on tissue

At 1st, we think that is just a few, just catch, tekan till die and throw; but we are wrong, i kept feeling uncomfortable at nite, i thought tat it might be my phychology thing tat bother me....till i fell something crawl on me...

i catch some, and try to search for the source from where they come from.....and i flip the corner of pillow case ....and what i saw is A BUNCH OF SMALL BED BUGS, crawling out!!!!

The next thing that i do, is throw away the pillow, jump of the bed, and grab the phone to call to reception.

Me: Reception?there are Bed Bugs in the room.
Receptionist: Bed Bug lor? can u pls pack and come down to change room?
Me : change room? OK.

It seems like is so normal to them. 1 of the staff came over to check on the situation.

Middle of the nite, i was dragging my stuff to the lobby, to change the room....from those forever "Black faced" staff, and not even a single "Sorry" word i heard.

Now i know why other people wrote bad review about this place.
I swear that i will never step into this place again.

Sawadeeka Krung Thep Part 2

AnantaSamakhom Throne Hall

To me, this was a surprise in Bangkok! as i had never expect to see such a beautiful European style building in the middle of Bangkok. It was made of marble. King Chulalongkorn ordered to built this, and it took 8 years to complete, after his death. The architect, artist were brought in from Italy. There are hand painted paintings up in the dome, but with thai elements.

"The Ananda Samakhom Throne Hall was constructed in the Italian Renaissance and Neo Classic style of architecture. The exterior is decorated with marble from Carrara, Italy. " from http://www.palaces.thai.net/night/new/vm/ananda.htm

Yaowarat Road (chinatown)

Famous with market in the morning, and restaurants, road side food stalls at night, and also bird nest & shark fins.

Things here are EXPENSIVE! a place of wan tan mee cost 50 baht (RM5) at a road side stall!!

Wat Arun- Temple of Dawn

Situated along Chao Phraya River, opposite of the Grand Palace. We missed the nice view at dawn time as we visited this place in the morning.

Notice the staircase on the right, visitor can climb up to the 3rd tier.
The staircase are almost 90 degrees! I stopped climbing up on the 2nd tier, the guys move up.

Wat Pho

There is a reclining Buddha in this temple. Behind it, there is 7 Gods. Thai people had a different God for each day, ex: Monday God, Tuesday God....If you are born on Monday, they you pray to Monday God. (this is what i heard when "eavesdropping" at a nearby tour guide doing his commentry)

Other than as a place for pray, this Wat was also a traditional Thai Medicine school and very old Thai Massage School. You can find many ancient plaques inscribed with medical texts were placed around the temple.

The feet of Buddha

For medicine teaching?

Sawadeeka Krung Thep

I had been to Bangkok Twice in 5 months time....so i think instead of answering questions like "y always go?", "u like thailand so much?", " nice to visit meh?", i think is it the best i post up wat i had been doing in bangkok over here , to answer those questions.

For both of the trips, i backpack there, no joining any tour from malaysia, coz i find those itinery BORING! (they go to zoo, waterpark, crocodile farm....just like wat we have over here) I want to see how ppl live in Bangkok.

Grand Palace (250baht)

- 1 of the must visit in all travel guide, after all..seldom u get a chance to visit palace right? Not sure about europe country, but in Malaysia, u can only stand outside the gate of the Palace, and see only trees.

The entrance fees had include entrance fees to Vimanmek Mansion as well.

Everyday, they have few sessions of free guided tour, in english .

Khao San Road

- a place full of guest house, backpacket lodge, budget inn.. and tourist!

You can buy food , backpack, clothes, souvenirs, liquor, slippers and even DEGREE CERT, DIPLOMA CERT, INTERNATIONAL DRIVING LICENSE, Intl STUDENT CARD here!!
Just give then your picture, if u don't have, they can take for u, and come back later to take. Ta- dah!!! there you go, a graduate is "produced".

other than that, they have this small little mobile pub by the road side, where u can order a "BUCKET" of liquor, which all the liquor will be pour into that small bucket, and you are giving a straw to drink.

Too bad that i did not have a pic of that....coz i scare that i'll be chopped up.

Erawan Shrine

A very famous place, even among hongkees, those artists & singers always go pray there. This is the new statue, after the previous one had been destroy by a mad guy. This place is crowded with people from day till nite.

There are dancers for employ to dance for the God. Ppl do so when they "thanks God". (还神)

Jim Thompson House

A Thai style house, which is belong to Jim Thompson, founder of Thai Silk company. According to many guide books, he had dissappear in Cameron Highland and never return.(http://www.jimthompsonhouse.com/)

We did not go in as its almost closing time, just took some pic outside.

Vimanmek Mansion

The world largest Golden Teak Wood Building. It did not use single nail for the construction.

They have the compulsory guided tour here. This place was used to be a Palace for few years. They exhibit the king's bedroom, bahtroom, working room, and all sort of souvenirs that the King received throughout the years. As camera is not allowed in the building, i do not have any interior picture. Go visit this place personally, is worth it.

Chiang Mai here we come!!

After almost 12 hours of journey, we reached Chiang Mai....finally!

But....not in the middle of town. We were transferred to pick-ups in a petrol kiosk sumwhere outskirt of town, and being sent to a guest house in a small lane somewhere 20 min walking distance from Tha Pae gate.

Why guest house? Why not bus station? Because that is for their customer (1/2 of the bus load)who had already sign up package in Bangkok.

Some of you might think that is good as you don have to look for ur own accomodation...but i'mtotally very dissappointed with their services. We were just left on our own to figure out where we are! No more buying bus ticket from Tour Agent!

None of us have a Chiang Mai map with us, what i have is just a very brief , almost useless mandarin Thailand Guide book with me. Luckily, 1 guai lou saw me trying to figuring out where are we on the map. He just ask us to follow him as he is also heading to Tha Pae Gate area, where most of the guest house was.

Chiang Mai weather is lovely during this time, is about 22C i guess. Tha Pae Gate area had been decorated in conjuction with Loy Krathong & King's 80th B'day.

We check-in to "Green House", a small little budget guest house. Is just 150bath for twin share/cold shower; 100 bath for single/cold shower. As i said "Budget", so dun expect too much. It is quite comfortable actually, u can do your laundry, use the shared hot shower. This guesthouse are quite hot among backpackers from Taiwan , Japan & Korea. There is a Korean gal who had been staying there for nearly a month!! I wish i can be like her, travelling all around. There is a booklet in the reading corner, which contents all the reccommendations by prev guests on where to dine & sightseeing.

Not forgetting a very very cute & naughty cat-- Garfield!!! Garfield is the pet to the guesthouse owner. He is playing non - stop, this minute with a leaf, the other moment with another cat's bell!!

We rented 2 bikes - 200bath each. Petrol in Thailand is expensive, 30 bath/litre. I wonder why Malaysian make so much noise when gov raised the oil price last time, they should appreciate that we are yet to pay RM3/ litre for oil. For the day, we visited Chiang Mai Uni, Doi Suthep and 1 of the hilltribe village.

On our way to Doi Suthep, we turn in to Chiang Mai Uni, which is BIG!! with a lake in the campus, something like USM but with many leng luis in uniform.

Further up the hill, we reach Doi Suthep-a gold shrine. Its not easy for me to climb up those stairrsssss.............look at my pic !

26 Nov
